Canoes |
|
The main component for a Boundary Waters trip, your
canoe should fit the type of trip you intend to take. We offer
three types of canoes in varying hull designs. The three types
of canoes we offer are: Kevlar, Aluminum and Royalex. |
- Kevlar
Canoes:
Kevlar canoes are not as durable as their
royalex and aluminum counterparts, but do have their strengths.
They are the lightest and fastest canoes in our fleet.
Weighing in at 42 pounds for a tandem (2-person) canoe, they are by
far the most prefered canoe on any portage. These canoes are
ideal for groups intending to travel daily over many miles.
Timber Trail Outfitters uses We-No-Nah canoes.
|
-
Aluminum Canoes: The mainstay of
the fleet. Tried and true, aluminum canoes are by far the most
common canoe in the Boundary Waters. Durable and stable they
are preferred by a wide array of Boundary Waters visitors.
Ideal for fisherman, youth groups, basecamp trips and more.
Average weight for a tandem canoe is 64 pounds. Boundary
Waters
Outfitters uses Alumacraft canoes.
|
- Royalex
Canoes: A nice option that
combines some of the strengths from both kevlar and aluminum canoes.
Royalex canoes paddle well and are silent in the water. They
are also quite stable and offer much of the durability of aluminum.
A shorter canoe, 16 feet, versus the average 17 foot canoe, a tandem
will weigh in at 57 pounds. Timber Trail uses Old Towne
canoes.

Packs |
| The packs best suited
for Boundary Waters travel are commonly called "Duluth Packs."
They are large, generally square packs that open via a top flap.
The packs used by Boundary Waters Outfitters are new and have all the
necessary components of modern day "backpacking" packs. These
being: comfortable shoulder straps with top and bottom adjustments,
waist belts for carrying the majority of the packs weight, and sternum
straps to pull the shoulder straps together all providing for a
comfortable, well balanced fit. The packs used for our Kevlar
Explorer Package also have side compression straps to reduce excess
space and pack size. When outfitted with our
equipment you are traveling at the height of form and function.
Boundary Waters Outfitters uses Kondos and Granite Gear
packs, specially designed for Boundary Waters travel. |
|
Sleeping Bags
and Pads |
| Boundary Waters
Outfitters uses high quality, summer weight sleeping bags in fill
length for our trips. These bags come in compression sacks to
reduce their size in half to minimize the amount of space used in your
pack. The bags make use of modern, lightweight insulation to
allow for comfortable temperature control as well as minimizing the
weight to be carried across the portages. Our sleeping pads are
also lightweight and come in full length or three quarter length
sizes. They are self-inflating air mattresses that are easy to
use and comfortable to sleep on. We use
Slumberjack Everest Elite sleeping bags and sleeping pads. |
|
Camp Stoves |
| The stoves used on our
Boundary Waters trips are compact and lightweight. They are one
burner in design and operate on white gas. By using gas, we can
eliminate the need for several propane canisters that can add excess
weight and bulk. The stoves are efficient and easy to use.
We use Coleman stoves. |
